REVELAR furnishes a baseline reading of a patient’s free radical damage by measuring the aldehydes in the patient’s breath. The process utilizes exhaled breath condensate technology to accurately detect specific aldehydes in small volumes of moisture contained in the breath. The process consists of three steps:
| 1) | The patient breathes into the patented breath tube |
| 2) | The reagent changes color in response to the aldehydes in the breath |
| 3) | The spectroscope in the device reads the color and provides a score |
The reagent reacts rapidly and completely with saturated aldehydes associated with oxidative stress, including hexanal, heptanal, decanal and octanal. In addition, the aldehydes measured are critical biomarkers of lipid peroxidation, the process by which excess free radicals attack lipids in cell membranes, causing tissue damage.
